Whitney Houston’s Daughter Bobbi Kristina Still on Life Support

The only child of the late singer Whitney Houston has not been taken off life support or declared brain dead, a family source said on Thursday, five days after Bobbi Kristina Brown was found face down in a bathtub at her Georgia home.

In the days since news broke that the daughter of Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown, was found face down in a bathtub in her Georgia home, the world is realizing how little it knows about her, her family and friends, and her condition.

Few details about Bobbi Kristina Brown’s condition have been released. Her family has said she was fighting for her life after being rushed to a hospital in the Atlanta suburb of Roswell on Saturday. Police said they responded to Bobbi Kristina Brown’s home in reference to a drowning. Her partner and a friend found her unresponsive in the tub and performed CPR until help arrived, police said.

Though still not completely clear, the circumstances of Bobbi Kristina’s hospitalization are eerily similar to her mother’s death on Feb. 11, 2012, at age 48. Houston was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton. Authorities ruled that Houston drowned, with cocaine and heart disease playing a factor in her death ahead of the Grammys. “She wasn’t only a mother, she was a best friend,” Bobbi Kristina told Oprah Winfrey in a 2012 interview shortly after Houston’s death. “She was a sister, a comforter … this spirit that she had, no matter where she went, no matter what she said to anyone, it touched everyone.”

Family friend and gospel singer Kim Burrell told “Access Hollywood” this week that doctors had put the young woman in a medically induced coma to stop brain swelling.

Roswell police and an attorney for Bobby Brown have said they were investigating the circumstances that led to Bobbi Kristina Brown’s hospitalization.

In a video interview over Skype with E! News on Wednesday, Jerod Brown asked people to “let the detectives do their jobs” and to stop speculating about what had happened to his cousin.

Houston, a six-time Grammy Award winner and actress who battled substance abuse, drowned in a hotel bathtub in Beverly Hills, California, on Feb. 11, 2012. Authorities said cocaine use and heart disease contributed to her death at age 48.

Katy Perry Brings Fireworks to Super Bowl 2015

Katy Perry brought fireworks to Super Bowl XLIX halftime Sunday night with an energy-filled, star-studded, highly produced performance that found her soaring over the field in Glendale, Arizona. 

She arrived on an animatronic lion sporting a dress that resembled flames to sing her hit song “Roar.” Her playful version of “Teenage Dream” featured a bevy of fun, dancing characters (sharks included). Soon, Perry upped the “cool” factor with Lenny Kravitz, who briefly joined on “I Kissed a Girl.” Not only did he play guitar, but Kravitz also sang Perry’s 2008 hit.

Her guest performer, Lenny Kravitz, then briefly joined her in a leather jacket and chainmail-style tank for a head-banging rendition of her breakout track, “I Kissed a Girl.”

The stage then transformed into a cartoon beach with dancing palm trees, beach balls, waves and sharks (complete with clouds around the top of the arena) as Perry emerged in a retro, beach ball-inspired skirt and bustier for “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls.”

During the show, which included fireworks, Ms. Perry did a duet with Lenny Kravitz and danced with Missy Elliott, who performed some of her own hits.

Perry’s other guest, Missy Elliott — whose name was kept under wraps but who was previously teased as an “old-school” female singer who, upon appearing, “I think jaws will drop and faces will melt” — came out stomping for “Get Ur Freak On” and “Work It,” with Perry rapping along to the choruses. Elliott closed her section with “Lose Control.”

As ridiculous and intentionally cheesy as it all seemed, it was so clear how serious she took this opportunity. She didn’t play it safe. Hell, Katy Perry was doing some scary shit! She was riding robot jungle cats and flying around a football stadium underneath a star that was literally on fire. Katy Perry’s Halftime Show was like some Mary Poppins acid trip.

And I was on my feet by the end. Hear me roar, y’all: this was some good, ridiculous entertainment.

Gwyneth Paltrow Breaks Her Silence on Jennifer Lawrence’s Relationship with Chris Martin

When it comes to Jennifer Lawrence dating her ex Chris Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow has stayed pretty mum on the topic, always wishing Martin well but never really discussing his rumored new girlfriend.

That’s right, the Goop creator decided to open up on Howard Stern‘s radio show on SiriusXM to slam reports that say she’s not pleased about her ex’s new girlfriend.

“Who says I don’t approve of Jennifer Lawrence?” she asked on today’s program. “I respect him as the father of my children…It’s his decision…He wouldn’t be with someone who isn’t great.”

During an interview on Howard Stern‘s Sirius XM radio show today, Paltrow slammed any sort of reports that suggest she dislikes Lawrence. “Who says I don’t approve of Jennifer Lawrence?” she asked on the live show. “I respect [Chris] as the father of my children…It’s his decision…He wouldn’t be with someone who isn’t great.”

The mother-of-two also wanted the world to know that she and Martin “actually have a really strong friendship.” She adds, “We have kids, we’re always going to be a family,” saying that their decision to “consciously uncouple” was about “finding the positives” in their history in order to create a drama-free future for their children.

“We laugh and we have fun but there are times when it’s really difficult,” Paltrow admitted. “Things happen and you’re like, I’m sure he doesn’t want to hang out with me and I don’t want to hang out with him but for the sake of the kids, you do it. But you also don’t do it all tense. You say, ‘I really want to find the love for you and I want to forgive you and I want you to forgive me and let’s have some fun as a family.'”

Last March, the two announced that they were separating after 10 years of marriage.

Bonnaroo 2015 : Billy Joel, Mumford and Sons, Deadmau5 Lead Lineup

Bonnaroo 2015 headliners include hit-making singer/pianist Billy Joel, English folk-rock group Mumford & Sons, mask-wearing electronic-dance-music star Deadmau5 and rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Billy Joel and Mumford and Sons will both be playing Bonnaroo 2015. Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and multiplatinum icon Billy Joel will be headlining the 2015 edition of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

Bonnaroo 2015 will be held June 11 – 14 on a 700-acre farm, called Great Stage Park, in Manchester, Tenn., about a 90 minute drive from Huntsville. Tickets ($300 general admission, $1,500-plus for VIP) to go on sale 11 a.m. CST Jan. 17 at bonnaroo.com.

Elvis Presley’s First Record Sells For $300,000 at 80th Birthday Auction

The late and great “King of Rock and Roll,” Elvis Presley, would have celebrated his 80th birthday today. Had he not died at age 42 from cardiac arrhythmia on August 16, 1977, Elvis Presley would have turned 80 years old today.To commemorate the occasion, Legacy Recordings has released Elvis’s Complete ’60s Albums Collection Vol. 1 on iTunes, reports Rolling Stone. A brand-new site entitled ElvisTheMusic.com, with the King’s extensive discography and upcoming news, went live today. Superfans with chunks of change can also bid on one of his former private planes in an auction starting in February, but you can’t fly them anywhere.

It’s been 38 years since Elvis Presley permanently left the building. But the legacy of the man once hailed as the King lives on.

“Elvis is my man,” Paul McCartney said. “He was a big influence on the Beatles and he just was great.”

To mark the great musician’s birthday, hundreds of fans joined Presley’s family in Memphis, Tennessee, with Presley’s former wife Priscilla and their child Lisa Marie, along with Elvis’ grandchildren, slicing an eight-tier cake to celebrate.

The rockabilly renegade died at his Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1977, reportedly from a drug-induced cardiac arrhythmia, but many believe this isn’t the whole story. The autopsy report was sealed by the King’s father, Vernon Presley, until 2027 (on the 50-year anniversary of his death). In 2010, his friend and former personal physician, Dr. George Nichopoulous, said he believed chronic constipation, not a cardiac arrhythmia, is what dethroned the King.

A collection of songs written by the likes of Willie Nelson (“Funny How Time Slips Away”), Bob Wills (“Faded Love,” made famous by Patsy Cline) and Monroe and Lester Flatt (“Little Cabin on the Hill”), Elvis Country also included Presley’s take on Hank Cochran’s “Make the World Go Away.”

Bidding began at $50,000 (£330,68) on 8 January and it was purchased by an undisclosed buyer at Presley’s former home Graceland, now also a museum and tourist attraction.

Other items on sale at the auction include an autographed copy of That’s All Right, a custom designed watch featuring a Star of David design, his first driver’s license and the jacket he wore in the Viva Las Vegas film.

First Impressions of Coachella 2015: Disconnects, Surprises and More

With Tuesday’s announcement that AC/DC, Drake and Jack White are headlining the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, the annual two-weekend gathering in the desert offers more than enough cultural dissonance to go around.

No-frills hard rock band AC/DC will anchor the first night of the three-day Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the annual party in the desert city of Indio that’s held over two consecutive weekends each April. The festival, long known for its marriage of dance and independent music, will then put away the devil horns for its second and third nights, as promoters Goldenvoice have tapped bluesy rocker Jack White and earnest rapper Drake as fellow headliners.

The three-day event — which kicks off the festival season on two consecutive weekends with identical lineups on April 10-12 and 17-19 — includes Drake, Jack White and AC/DC as headliners.

AC/DC, which is globally touring Rock or Bust, is now headlining one of the biggest music festivals in the world.

This year, Coachella will be featuring artists such as AC/DC, Interpol, Steely Dan, Alesso, NERO, Flying Lotus, Porter Robinson, DJ Snake, Jack White, Axwell /\ Ingrosso, Ratatat, Drake, Kaskade, David Guetta and many many more.

Still, there’s no shortage of challenging acts on this year’s bill, at least for those willing to arrive at festival grounds long before sundown. Chicago rapper Vic Mensa, scruffy rock band Parquet Courts and Danish should-be dance star MØ are among just a few of the lesser known highlights.

But a leading American music website is amongst many to question AC/DC’s position as the designated opening night headliner for the huge Californian event, which will be held over consecutive three-day weekends in April and last year drew nearly 580,000 fans.

The bulk of tickets were sold in a presale that began in May. A three-day pass starts at $375, although general admission wristbands are listed as sold out. For both weekends a ticket/shuttle combo is available for $435. A VIP wristband is $899 (VIP parking is $150 and sold separately).

In 2012 the festival responded to years of sellout attendance by doubling capacity, showcasing the same musical lineup on back-to-back weekends. Goldenvoice introduced Stagecoach in 2008, hosting such country all-stars as Brad Paisley and Taylor Swift, and expanded that festival from two days to three in 2012.

Last year Coachella hosted a reunited OutKast, a reunited Replacements and orchestral indie rockers the Arcade Fire.

 

 

Chris Brown Accuses Karrueche of Cheating With Drake

According to Complex magazine, Chris Brown confirmed his new single status at the Cali Christmas concert on Friday night – but he and Karreuche Tran now appear to be arguing in public.

Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran were pretty public about their romance and now the couple’s break-up is playing out right before our eyes too.

 On Friday, Breezy revealed that he was now single during a performance at Power 106′s Cali Christmas concert and on Saturday (December 6) a couple of Instagram posts between the two only further confirmed the split, and suggested that Drake may have came between the two.

Chris has accused his former flame of going on dates with rapper Drake in a lengthy Instagram post, after his former lover appeared hit back at him.

She wrote: ‘When something bad happens you can either let it define you, let it destroy you or let it strengthen you. The choice is yours.’

Brown and Tran have been dating on and off for quite some time. In 2012, Chris Brown announced that he was single. At the time, he said he didn’t want his rekindled friendship with his ex-girlfriend Rihanna to hurt Karrueche.

Later Chris shared a photo of himself surrounded by the Kardashian-Jenners – with Kylie and Kendall hugging up to him, while Khloe Kardashian also got in on the action.

After the pics were posted … Karrueche tweeted, “N****s be in they feelings when you break up with them lol.”

Taylor Swift is Billboard’s Woman of the Year – Again

Taylor Swift isn’t just Billboard’s Woman Of The Year; she’s her own woman through and through! The Blank Space singer had to deal with a surprising amount of pushback on her way to releasing the biggest album of the year. America’s country pop/rock singer and song writer, Taylor Alison Swift has been dubbed by ’Billboard’ magazine as the Woman of the year. The 24 year old songstress is the only artist to ever receive the award more than once. The award goes to the female artist who “has shaped and inspired the music industry with her success, leadership and innovation” over the last year, and has had Katy Perry, Pink and Beyoncé as past winners. Taylor Swift has had a hugely successful year, scoring the best first week sales for an album since 2002 – and now she’s Billboard’s Woman of the Year for the second time. Covering the Women in Music issue, Taylor spoke to the magazine all about her fight to keep the country genre out of the latest album 1989, her celebrity BFFs and her songwriting process. Billboard talked to other musical women about Taylor too, and Lorde was happy to describe her friend as a ‘force of protective energy.’ In the interview set to run alongside the Billboard cover story, Taylor discussed industry fears when she decided on a pop album (instead of country), song-writing, and the reactions of others to her music.

The Dress That Shocked The Arab World

A Lebanese pop star caused outrage in the Arab world by wearing a revealing dress during a talent show performance condemned by many as ‘scandalous’.

Haifa Wehbe, 38, was appearing on a live episode of Arab Star Academy, a pan-Arab TV music talent contest, donning a figure-hugging long black dress with revealing sheer panels.

More than two million people watched the seductive performance and many women took to social media to criticise Wehbe for her racy choice of outfit.

Most of the negative reactions on social media came from women in Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

In Saudi Arabia, women are required to cover up from head to toe, often with only their eyes exposed.

One Egyptian woman tweeted: ‘It is true that we got used to her wearing scandalous clothes but not to this extent…it was a shock for the viewers.’

 

‘There’s also an element of social media meanness in what is happening that drives this bullying of celebrities.’

In response to the criticism from conservative viewers in the Arab world, thousands of the singer’s fans posted messages of support on social media – with one highlighting the stark difference between her outfit and Kim Kardashian’s recent photo shoot.

Sawsun Abu Omar wrote: ‘After Kim Kardahsian‘s attempt to break the internet, I find Haifa Wehbe‘s see-through dress on star academy to be quite modest.’

 

The Egyptian channel CBC, which airs the Star Academy TV show, issued an apology on its channel for the star’s appearance on the show.

Wehbe herself blamed the stage lighting in a tweet, saying the original dress appeared more modest but that she ‘was surprised that it looked very different with the strong lighting on the stage.’
